Our Surgical Matrons have been sharing how simple communication helped improve their Staff Survey response rate by 54% last year, increasing from 33.3% in 2024, to 51.3% in 2025.
We asked them for some of their top tips:
- Simply talking to colleagues about the survey and what happens to their feedback helps.
- We had a trolley we took around to combine the message on flu jabs and the staff survey at the same time. Let’s just say we put a lot of business Cadbury’s way!
- We helped signpost colleagues to find their survey emails – explaining that whilst the survey goes right across CHFT and the NHS, it also relates to the teams they work with every day.
- It's important to let colleagues know that their views don’t go into an ether. Once the results are published we celebrate our successes but also have an eye on working with colleagues on improvements. It’s important as leaders we don’t shy away from what we can do better.
- We stress to colleagues that the results help shape our actions in the division and across teams over the next year.
Opt-in to win!
The survey takes roughly 10 minutes to complete and is 100% anonymous.
Everyone who completes it will be asked if they want to opt in to the weekly draw to win an extra day of annual leave, or a shopping voucher.
Names will then go into a weekly raffle which is managed directly by our survey provider IQVIA. If your name isn't selected, you'll remain in the draws for the following weeks, so the earlier you complete your survey the more chances you have to win. The annual leave prizes will be won by lucky colleagues in the first four weeks of the survey period.
