The Acute Liaison Team offer a service to help patients with a disability, and their support networks, by offering reasonable adjustments to enable equal opportunity when visiting our hospitals. The team also works closely alongside the community learning disability health and social care services to ensure holistic and person-centred approaches are always at the heart of goal setting within the learning disability community.

The team are there to support and work with disciplinary teams throughout our Trust to help implement reasonable adjustments for our patients who need them. This may look like, offering accessible information to those who need communication support, planning and guiding colleagues through complex admissions, offering additional guidance for family and carers, and being an open platform for colleagues ask questions.

The team is made up of Nurse Consultant for Learning Disabilities Amanda Mckie, new Learning Disability Nurses Nicola Lawton and Holly Prentice, and Patient Experience and Inclusion Worker, Toseef Ahmed. 

Our new nurses, Nicky and Holly, qualified around the same time and moved to their new roles with us from same Trust, working in opposite community learning disability teams.

Holly said: "This role offers so many opportunities in my career for supporting and advocating for people with learning disabilities. I'm excited about meeting a wider variety of wonderful individuals within the learning disability community who need access to hospital and hope to make their journey as accessible and smooth as possible."
