A charity book stall at the main entrance of Huddersfield Royal Infirmary (HRI) has raised more than £2,000 for CHFT Charity since it was set up in January.

The popular stall is available for colleagues, patients and visitors and operates on a simple 'donate what you can' basis. Packed with a wide range of titles, the stall is stocked entirely through donations from generous colleagues and members of the public.

Donated books can be dropped off at the Charity office or placed directly on the book stall, helping to ensure there is always something new for readers to discover.

The success of the initiative has inspired plans to introduce a similar book stall at Calderdale Royal Hospital (CRH) in the future, giving even more people the opportunity to support CHFT Charity while enjoying a good read.

Katie Stewart, Fundraising Coordinator for CHFT Charity (pictured), said: "We set up the book stall in January while we were having a spring clean of our storage area and creating space following our Christmas Give a Gift campaign. The idea was originally intended as a one-off initiative to help us make use of some surplus stock. However, it proved so popular that we decided to give it a shout-out on our social media channels, and since then we have received a steady stream of book donations from our wonderful supporters.

"We've had so many positive comments from both colleagues and patients. People have told us how lovely it is to be able to pop by on their lunch break and pick up a book, or to take one with them when visiting a loved one on the ward. It's a simple idea, but it has brought a lot of joy to people.

"We are absolutely delighted that the book stall has been such a fantastic success and are incredibly grateful to everyone who has donated books to help keep it stocked."

Colleagues are encouraged to support the initiative by donating any unwanted books or picking up their next read from the stall. Every donation helps CHFT Charity continue to support patients, colleagues and services across the Trust.
