NHS England’s e-learning for healthcare and the ACCEND Workforce Education and training team have developed a new cancer workforce education and training hub to support the Aspirant Cancer Career and Education Development programme (ACCEND).

The ACCEND cancer hub will be a one-stop-shop for the cancer workforce. It has been developed to provide a ‘go-to’ place where healthcare professionals can find resources, e-learning and links to the Career Pathway and Core Cancer Capabilities in Practice and Education Framework.

The hub supplies resources, information, education and training to support skill building, as well as career pathways.

Phase 1 of the launch features nine e-learning modules called ‘Foundations of Cancer Care’. This is specifically aimed at the pre-registration workforce to supply core knowledge and understanding about the foundations of cancer care. Such as what cancer is, how it develops, the impact, communication, the role of research and how to support themselves and colleagues.

There is also a comprehensive toolkit, designed for those working in the supportive and assistive workforce, which is broken down into CORE training and education, which includes:

  • The Foundations of Cancer Care (this has been written and developed for the pre-registration workforce, however this will be a useful and interesting resource for the supportive and assistive workforce.)
  • The Care Certificate.
  • Essentials of Cancer Care.
  • Personalised Care Planning for People with Cancer.
  • The Principles of Cancer Care.
  • Macmillan Evidenced Based Learning.

This training is linked to the Career Pathway, Core Cancer Capabilities in Practice and Education Framework, so the supportive and assistive workforce have fundamental knowledge and understanding of cancer and its consequences.

The toolkit is also full of MORE training.  This will support your learning, increase your knowledge and awareness of cancer and other long-term conditions.

You can also expect to gain an understanding of the ACCEND programme, national framework and implementation guides to inspire you to work in this brilliant speciality.

The ACCEND programme is developing a range of learning opportunities to supply a definitive career and development pathway. Aimed at those working in supportive and assistive roles within cancer, as well as, nurses and allied health professionals aspiring to work or currently working in cancer care.

Phase 2 will look to enhance these existing toolkits and incorporate further resources based on user feedback following launch.

We will also be developing content for the registered, enhanced and advanced levels of practice as well as, leadership and consultant level, so there is something for everyone – at all levels of practice.

These are currently being developed and will be available later this year.
