Last week saw us celebrating our wonderful volunteers, in recognition of Volunteers’ Week. The celebrations culminated in our very first ‘Volunteer of the Month' Award, implemented to recognise how integral our volunteers are to both our patients and colleagues.

Speaking about the Award, Volunteer Coordinator, Stevie Cheesman, said: “Providing the volunteers with their own monthly award is the least we can do to say thank you. Our Care Club Volunteers have become a vital part of CHFT work. They graciously provide their time to benefit others, which is a beautiful and selfless act.”

Volunteer Ward Helper, Liz Kelleghan, came away with this shiny new title, after being nominated by the entire team in the Chemotherapy Department.

The nomination reads: “She treats patients and staff both equally with respect and dignity. She always remembers personal details, which is an excellent attribute, and a true reflection of how kind-hearted she is.”

Liz received the award during the Volunteers Event, organised by Volunteer Coordinator, Stevie Cheesman and Administration Trainee, Charlie Singleton. The yellow-themed event featured fun activities like table games and a photo backdrop for our colleagues and volunteers to enjoy. Volunteer, Anne Stephenson, attended the event and said: “What a lovely way to meet fellow volunteers and exchange ideas, it was such a bright and cheerful gathering.”
