Here is a brief description of recent policy changes. Please make yourself aware of the changes, as they may also impact training requirements.

NEW - Enteral Tube Feeding Adult Inpatient Policy 

Supports the safe and effective management of enteral tube feeding (feeding into the gastrointestinal tract) in adults.

C-25-2012 Safeguarding Adults Policy

Added information to new point 13 to include safeguarding and the deceased following the recommendation in the Fuller Report.  To also include the information relating to the Trusts executive lead for ensuring robust and effective arrangements in place that includes the care of the deceased. 

C-137-2024 Nasogastric Feeding Tube (Adults) Policy

• NG placement confirmation process added to key messages
• DoubleCHEK roll out, training requirements.
• NEX + CXR if not able to reach target depth.
• CXR if patient vomits during insertion to confirm gastric placement
• Movement from initial confirmed insertion depth, requires reposition and pH check, or CXR to confirm gastric placement.
• NGPOD no longer in use at CHFT

C-117-2020 Learning Disability Policy

• Standard Operating Procedure reviewed and updated
• Added NHS England Guidance to support implementation of the Mental Capacity Act in acute Trusts for adults with a learning disability. May 2025
• Reporting structure change now reports to Clinical Assurance Group (CAG)
• Oliver McGowan training launch added
• Added daily senior nurse checks via EPR
