Our Infection Prevention and Control (IP&C) Team will be running a campaign during the first two weeks of September to spread awareness around Aseptic Non-Touch Technique (ANTT).

ANTT is a specific type of aseptic technique which all clinical colleagues must be assessed and deemed competent in every three years. Our infection team are looking to improve practice, highlight the importance of ANTT and ensure colleagues know where to access resources, seek help and challenge poor practice.

Colleagues from IP&C will be visiting areas to speak with colleagues and hold demonstrations on what equipment should and should not be used for ANTT procedures. They will also be delivering resource folders and directing staff to further resources found on the intranet. Notice boards will also be on display between Tuesday, 1st September and Tuesday, 15th September with information for colleagues and visitors. These will be located in the main entrance of HRI and near staff changing rooms at CRH.

Infection Prevention and Control Nurse, Susan Higo, said: "All clinical colleagues are required to be competent in ANTT to reduce the risk of healthcare associated infection for our patients. During the campaign, we would like to see colleagues take the opportunity to ask us questions, raise concerns, identify any shortages in equipment and to discuss in their teams how they manage ANTT procedures.

"We also encourage all colleagues to highlight any breaches in practice to an appropriate member of staff."
