Congratulations to Surgical Advanced Clinical Practitioner, Liam Stout, who has recently graduated with a PhD in Purulen Skin and Soft Tissue Abscesses: Knowledge and Innovation Arising from Ritualistic Practice in General Surgery.

Liam undertook his doctorate as he had first-hand experience treating patients experiencing abscesses and saw how it affected their lives. He wanted to research and find out if there was a better way to treat them, in order to help improve their quality of life.

His hard work will have a direct benefit on patients, as he's been able to add his own knowledge into the current research around abscesses, which will hopefully lead to new treatment and management plans for patients in the future.

Liam said: "The experience was challenging and I did come across a few hurdles along the way, but overall I did enjoy it - which is easier to say now that it's done!

"I had great support from my family, fellow surgical AHPs and the wider general surgery team."

Well done Liam on your fantastic achievement.
