Our patients on Ward 5 at HRI are benefiting from some new TVs and DVD players, purchased through charitable funding, which are helping make their hospital stay more comfortable and enjoyable.

The elderly care ward successfully secured funding for the equipment through money raised and donated to support patients on the ward. The new TVs have now been installed and are being used regularly, providing entertainment, comfort and opportunities for social interaction.

Patient, Ann, said, "It's been wonderful to watch some TV today and has helped pass on a few hours."

Meanwhile, Geoff enjoyed watching a Carry On film and reflected on the memories it brought back, "I watched an old Carry On movie today, it took me right back to the 40s."

Engagement Support Worker, Nicola Wrigley, explained how the benefits of the new equipment extend beyond entertainment. She said: "It's wonderful to be able to use funds raised and donated to buy something useful for the patients. It's so important to keep everyone engaged whilst in hospital. Watching TV can also be socialising. After Geoff watched an old movie today, this led on to a reminiscing session about what we used to watch years ago and how TV programmes have changed over the years."

Staff Nurse, Rachel Emberton, highlighted the positive impact of charitable funding on patient experience and thanked those who have supported fundraising efforts on the ward, "It's lovely that we get to see how the money is benefiting our patients on Ward 5. The money is either donated or raised through the ward, which the staff all help with."
