From 10:00 on Wednesday, 29th July there will be some changes to Nervecentre observations and Out of Hours task allocations.

There will be no Nervecentre downtime, but the main points to note are:

• There will be new permissions so that nurses can set some special circumstances models.
• The escalation recipient list will now state ART (Acute Response Team) 24/7 instead of Outreach and H@N 
• Colleagues must continue to refer deteriorating patients to the ART team as the NEWS2 alerts do not constitute a formal referral.
• There are some changes to Out of Hours tasks – please familiarise yourself with these.

More information and actions

• In Observations, Urine will be a mandatory field, there are minor changes to the oxygen device list and Nurse in Charge notifications will now require an acknowledgement, rather than being accepted as a task.
• Nurses will now also be able to set the End-of-life Care Plan and Medical Rehab special circumstances model. This can only be done once this has been documented in the patient’s medical notes.
• The ART Team / Registrars and Consultants will continue to be the only teams who can set other special circumstances models, including the new mixed models.
• There are some changes to Out of Hours tasks. For example x-ray/CT and ultrasound will all sit under a new Imaging task. Please familiarise yourself with the list of tasks (see the images below).

Remember: Automatic NEWS2 alerts generated through Nervecentre are intended to notify the Acute Response Team of physiological deterioration but do not constitute a formal referral. Any patient requiring urgent review must be referred directly by telephone or via bleep to ensure timely clinical assessment.
