Senior Assistant Audiology Practitioner, Jenny Boswell, is taking on an incredible challenge at the weekend, climbing Ben Nevis to raise funds that will help enhance support for patients living with dementia.

The Audiology team have recently begun developing services specifically aimed at improving care for people living with dementia. Hearing loss can have a significant impact on individuals with dementia, but accessing support can sometimes be difficult. Assessments may feel overwhelming, and unfamiliar clinical environments can be challenging for patients to navigate comfortably.

Funds raised through Jenny’s challenge will help the department build on its current resources and provide more tailored support, helping to create a more positive experience for patients and their families.

For Jenny, the challenge is also deeply personal. She said: “Dementia is something very close to my heart, as I sadly lost my grandma, Nancy, at the age of 91 last year to this illness. Seeing the difference that dedicated, compassionate support can make to both patients and their families is incredibly important to me. If climbing a mountain is my way of contributing and helping make that difference, then I’m more than happy to take on the challenge!”

By climbing the UK's highest peak, Jenny hopes not only to raise valuable funds, but also to highlight the importance of accessible, person-centred care for people living with dementia.

We wish Jenny the very best of luck as she prepares to tackle Ben Nevis and thank her for supporting such an important cause.
