Liver Specialist Nurse, Caroline Winkley, is as proud as punch this week, following daughter Ava’s amazing efforts at the European Transplant Games in Arnhem.

We’ve covered Ava’s journey since her liver transplant at the age of five, and last week she competed for the first time in the adult category, winning every event she took part in.

Ava achieved three personal bests along with winning five individual gold medals in the 50m freestyle, 100m freestyle, 50m butterfly, 50m breaststroke and 100 Individual medley. She also took two relay golds.

Caroline said: “It was an eventful week for sure. Sadly the heatwave forced the athletics and other events to be reduced or cancelled, which was such a shame for the athletes and organisers. But as the competitors were all transplant patients they had to be sure they stayed safe.

“Ava is really pleased with her efforts and looking forward to the World Games next year in Belgium.”
