Last week we welcomed nurses Brenda Daley and Jeanette Lee from Glendon Hospital in Montserrat as part of a managed education partnership with NHS England.

Brenda is the Nursing Hospital Nursing Manager and Jeanette Lee is a Staff Nurse /Midwife attached to the Emergency Department and the Operating Theatre. The pair will participate in a structured observership programme here at CHFT.

The observership is a four-week placement centred on education, training, and shadowing of NHS practices. This partnership offers mutual professional and institutional benefits which will focus on nurse leadership, maternity care, infection control and surgical nursing.

Senior Clinical Educator, Rosie Bevan, said: “The welcome event was a great way of introducing Brenda and Jeanette to some of the teams they will be working alongside and provided an opportunity to ask questions and find out more about what is important to CHFT.

“I’ve worked alongside Theatre Clinical Educator, Zoe Matthewman to develop a structured timetable and a welcome booklet to ensure they are supported throughout the programme. We even presented them with a welcome basket of all things 'Yorkshire' which we hope was a nice addition to welcome them to the local area.

Brenda said: “'The event was lovely. We learned so much in a few hours – it was simply amazing. It was so good I want to take the presenters with me back to Montserrat! I am truly looking forward to the days ahead and for all that lies in store for us.”

A closing event at the end of the programme will give a chance for senior leaders and those involved in the programme to hear about the shared learning and benefits of the observership.
