Safeguarding Awareness Week is taking place between Monday 22nd June to Friday 26th June.

The Safeguarding Week 2026 programme of events brings together a wide range of learning opportunities for professionals working to protect children, young people and adults across our safeguarding partnerships. The sessions on offer reflect current priorities and challenges in safeguarding practice.

This year’s programme includes expert-led sessions, current practice insights and practical learning, supporting professionals at all levels – whether you are new to safeguarding or looking to further develop your knowledge and confidence.

Demand for Safeguarding Week events is always high, so please book early to avoid missing out.

Our Safeguarding Team will also be taking part in a Safeguarding Walking Bus, where they go to visit different areas. They will be at HRI on Tuesday 23rd June and CRH on Thursday 25th June to give colleagues the chance to meet members of the team and ask any questions. Please contact the Safeguarding Team if you would like them to visit your area.

This week the team will be promoting our Safeguarding Champions and encouraging people to join. The Champion’s role is an additional commitment colleagues make in ward areas to support safeguarding. They act as a link between the Safeguarding Team and their departments. They work to give important information relating to safeguarding children and adults and can upskill in particular areas specific to where they work, for instance, they can upskill on Domestic Abuse, Mental Capacity Act, DOLs.

Our Safeguarding Team currently provide a network meeting bi-annually, which offers support and supervision to colleagues who have committed to supporting the champions’ network. The individual provides the Safeguarding Team with a photograph which is added to the intranet and made available to Trust colleagues as a point of contact, and they receive a badge so that they can be easily identifiable. The network also gives bespoke learning opportunities, and guest speakers that can directly support professionals in this role.

Information stalls at each site will also be available with materials for colleagues to take back to their ward or department areas. At CRH this will be in the main entrance and at HRI this will be near Southside Dining.
