Carers' Week provides a vital opportunity to raise awareness of caring and the need for greater recognition and support for the UK’s 5.8 million unpaid carers.
This year’s theme is Building Carer Friendly Communities. The theme highlights the impact carer friendly communities can have in making a real and lasting difference to the lives of carers everywhere.
To support this year's theme, throughout the week, we are going to be hosting drop-in sessions for any carers across the trust that want to come along a get any support or resources.
- HRI – Tuesday 9th June – Forum Room 1B, Learning Centre – 12:30 – 13:30
- CRH – Wednesday 10th June – Autumn Room, Learning Centre - 12:30 – 13:30
If you cannot attend one of these drop-in sessions but need some support and/or resources, please contact odteam@cht.nhs.uk
Carer friendly communities are places, spaces, services and community groups where unpaid carers are recognised, understood, and valued. They make support part of everyday life ensuring carers get the opportunities and help they need. They are made up of people who:
- recognise unpaid carers and the vital role they play
- understand the realities and impact of caring
- take action to identify and support carers in practical ways
- empower carers to live fulfilling lives
When communities work together in this way, carers have fairer opportunities and can lead better lives.
To support the week, a summary of information for carers is available in a handy two page guide.
Our Carers' Network will next meet on Wednesday 15th July, if you would like to join us for this, please email odteam@cht.nhs.uk and they’ll get an invite sent out to you.
