Congratulations to Advanced Practitioner in Radiology, Aisling Spencer, who has successfully completed a two-year in-house training programme and is now signed off as an Independent MRI Reporting Radiographer for MRI knees and lumbar spine.

An Independent MRI Reporting Radiographer is a radiographer who can independently interpret and report selected MRI examinations. This supports faster diagnoses, improved patient pathways, and strengthens the wider radiology service.

To achieve this qualification, Aisling completed postgraduate training involving academic study, supervised clinical reporting, achievement of clinical competencies, and the development of a reporting portfolio over an extended period of time.

Aisling said: "This qualification will expand my role within the MRI service, allowing me to independently report selected musculoskeletal MRI examinations and contribute further to patient diagnosis and management.

"The main benefit for both patients and the department is increased reporting capacity and the potential reduction in waiting times for MRI reports, helping patients receive diagnoses and treatment plans more quickly. It also supports service resilience and multidisciplinary working within Radiology.

"I wanted to take this on because I enjoy the challenge and responsibility that comes with advanced practice, and I’m passionate about continually developing my skills to improve patient care. I’m also passionate about advancing the role of radiographers within MRI and helping to raise the profile of advanced clinical practice within the profession.

"I’m incredibly grateful to my mentor, Nikhil Bhuskute, for his unwavering dedication and support over the past 24 months. His mentorship, encouragement, and expertise have played a significant role in helping me achieve this qualification."

Fantastic news Aisling - a huge well done to you for your dedication and commitment.
