Three of our FY1 resident doctors have successfully presented their research at a prestigious international surgical conference, highlighting the strength of our clinical research culture and support for early career development.
Doctors Emily Robinson, Amelia Hardy and Hannah Durband completed audit work and original studies focusing on the management of cholecystostomy tubes, which are drainage tubes used in the gallbladder. Their work was submitted to the Association of Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland annual conference, held in Brighton between the 12th to 14th May.
With almost 1,000 abstract submissions, competition for places was high. All three resident doctors achieved acceptance, with Emily delivering a long form oral presentation and Hannah and Amelia presenting in the short oral Talking Poster session. Their work and presentations were very well received by peers and experts in the field.
Several additional submissions from CHFT were also accepted at the conference, demonstrating our continued commitment to surgical research and education.
The team plans to build on this success by continuing data collection into the wider management of acute gallbladder disease. They aim to present further findings at the Association of Upper GI Surgery of Great Britain and Ireland conference in Harrogate later this year, and at the Society of Gastroenterological and Endoscopic Surgeons conference in the USA in early 2027.
Arin Saha, Consultant in General, Upper GI and Bariatric Surgery, said: “We are incredibly proud of Emily, Amelia and Hannah for this achievement. To have their work accepted at such a competitive international meeting, and then to present it so confidently, is a fantastic reflection of their hard work and dedication. Their success also highlights the strength of research and education within CHFT, and the opportunities we provide for our resident doctors to develop and excel.”
