Specialist Dietician, Kate Darwin, recently presented her Masters research at the National Macmillan Professionals Conference in Birmingham.

Kate is currently halfway through her Master's degree, funded by Macmillan. As part of this she recently completed a quality improvement project where she looked at how the upper GI and Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic (HPB) cancer dietetic service, which she runs, could be utilised more effectively to benefit both our patients and reduce time pressures.

She redesigned the service to create more structure, where patients are seen at the most appropriate times in their pathway, ensuring dietetic intervention is delivered when most needed. Outcomes are being measured now that the service is fully operational, and so far, show a huge improvement in patient care and service delivery.

At the conference, she was able to share her learning with other professionals. Kate said: "There was a lot of interest and I received some amazing feedback from other cancer care professionals. And it wasn't just dieticians, I had specialist nurses, Occupational Therapists, Physios and Speech and Language Therapists all expressing interest."

Well done Kate and good luck in your remaining studies.
