This Thursday we'll be saying adiós, au revoir, and auf Wiedersehen, to our globetrotting Operations Manager for Trauma and Orthopaedics, Angela (Ange) Farrell, as she'll retire after a 43-year career in the NHS.

Here's a little more from Ange on her time at CHFT and how you can say your own farewell.

"I began my NHS career on 17th January 1983 when I started working at the Laura Mitchell Heath Centre in Halifax, the School Dentist, after qualifying as a dental nurse. My early duties included school screenings and chair side assistance doing general anaesthetics in outlying clinics.

"In August 1998, after spending 15 years working for the community dental service, I decided to try a different career and became a pub landlady at The Fleece Inn, Clayton, Bradford, though I continued to work bank shifts at Halifax General Hospital in the Oral Surgery department.

"After leaving the pub industry at the turn of the Millennium, I began a full-time role in the Oral Surgery department at HRI. I absolutely loved my time working in Oral Surgery, which became the Maxillofacial unit, progressing to the role of Senior Dental Nurse. (Ange is pictured right with MaxFax manager, Mary Augustine, who still works on the staff bank in Endoscopy).

"In 2008, I started studying at TheUniversity of Huddersfield, completing a Masters Degree in Healthcare Management, graduating in September 2012.

"Armed with these new qualifications, I secured the role of Operations Manager in the Surgical Division based at HRI. During the last 14 years in the Surgical Division, I have supported all the different directorates including General Surgery, Head and Neck, and Specialist Surgical Services. I moved to Trauma Orthopaedics in January 2018 where I have worked with General Manager, Jane Peacock, ever since.

"I really enjoy my role, which brings different challenges every day. I took partial retirement in 2022, but now the time has come to finally bring the curtain down on more than four decades of service. I'm looking forward to spending more time with my family and grandchildren, and those who know me will know I have lots of holidays booked.

"I will miss all my colleagues past and present and will take many happy memories with me.  I have made lifelong friendships along the way, and I am very proud to have dedicated my working life to the NHS. I have worked with looked after and cared for so many amazing people from every walk of life over the years, and will always be grateful I had the privilege of working for the NHS for so many years".

Ange will be in the HRI boardroom tomorrow, Wednesday, 27th May from 2pm to 3.30pm if you would like to come and say ‘Hi and Goodbye'.
