Our Endoscopy Department has a brand new web page and it's already reaping benefits.

Endoscopy Matron, Tracy Burland said: "I wanted to start this project before COVID, but as we know, plans changed rapidly during that time. Our service still mainly relied on sending appointment letters with a paper booklet, often leading to patients being unprepared or missing appointments due to not having their information in a timely manner.

"So Clinical Operations manger, Joanne Priston and Admin Manager, De'Anne Durkin and I (pictured), enlisted the support of Quality Improvement Lead, Deehan Mair to help build the new page.

"It's been designed to give patients as much information as possible about their appointments. We also had massive support from Digital Health's, Helen Sutcliffe and Medical Photographer (and now Communications Officer), Megan Litjens to produce video content for the website. This includes informative bowel preparation videos to help patients understand their procedures, and a patient journey video, using volunteers from the Endoscopy team to prepare patients on what to expect."

Patients get the web page details via text, letter and at pre-assessment stage. Initial findings show that the missed and cancelled on the day figures are improving.

Tracy added: "We simply couldn't have done this without all the support from our colleagues. Finally it's a reality!"
