To celebrate Earth Day, which takes place this coming Wednesday, 22nd April, we are running a Nature Photography Competition to showcase the beauty of nature and highlight the importance of protecting our environment.
Whether it’s a calming woodland walk, a blooming garden, wildlife encounters or a striking scenery, we’re looking for photos that showcase our local natural landscape and the rich biodiversity of Calderdale and Huddersfield.
The winning photo will be selected by the Sustainability Team and will win a £30 One4All voucher, provided by CHS. The winning and second and third runner-up photographs will be proudly shared across CHFT's social media channels.
To enter, please submit your nature themed photo. You can submit multiple entries, but please start a new form each time. The competition will close at 16:00 on Friday, 8th May. The winners will be contacted by the Sustainability Team by Friday, 15th May.
Take part in our 2026 Sustainability Survey
Back in 2024 we asked for colleagues' views on how we can improve sustainability and reduce the Trust’s environmental impact. Since then, significant progress has been made in line with our Green Plan to reduce our carbon footprint and the impact of our operations. Here's what you said, and what we've done:
- A third of colleagues said that lack of awareness was the main obstacle in preventing the NHS from becoming more sustainable, so we developed a Green Champions training package to increase staff knowledge about the Green Plan, Net Zero and waste management. You can book a spot on the next training session.
- The most popular sustainability initiative colleagues said they would like to see implemented were waste reduction and recycling programmes, so we expanded the furniture and equipment reuse scheme and introduced a reuse scheme for walking aids, helping to promote circular economy and prevent valuable resources going to waste.
- 98% of colleagues said that sustainability is important - so the Green Plan was re-written to ensure the actions and priorities for the next three years were relevant, achievable, and developed in line with key stakeholders across the Trust.
This Earth Day, we would like to hear your views again in our latest survey. All NHS Trusts are required to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2040, and we would appreciate your input on ways we can continue to reduce our environmental impact, conserve resources and improve efficiency going forwards.
The survey will close at 4pm on Wednesday, 6th May.
CHS's Deputy Managing Director, Tom Donaghey, will be joined by Environment Manager, Grace Barrett, and Transformation Manager, Claire Sibbald, who is also one of the Trust’s green champions on a special edition of CHFT Live this Wednesday at 13:00. Watch for the Trust wide email reminder around 15 minutes beforehand.
