We have been speaking to Dr Camilla Ledgard, who has rotated back to CHFT, having been a CHFT’s Got Medical Talent award winner in 2019. She’s keen to share what being nominated and winning meant for her, and to encourage colleagues to take two minutes to share how a doctor in training has wowed them.
Camilla said: “I think these awards are fantastic and so important, particularly in the current climate both globally and specifically for resident doctors. We so often only hear about the negatives, but these awards are a really positive and impactful way to give feedback to peers and colleagues.
"From a personal perspective, I won the Going Above and Beyond Award and also nominated in the Excellence in Medical Education category back in 2019. Winning the awards and receiving the nominations massively improved my confidence when I was at a relatively junior point in my career, as someone who (like a lot of medics) often lives with ‘imposter syndrome’ at work it really reassured me and made me feel valued.
"The nomination and award process also impacted other things more subtly. For example knowing peers and colleagues had nominated me made me feel much more part of a team and like I belonged rather than just rotating through. From a career perspective being able to talk about the awards at my Annual Review of Competence Progression (ARCP) and registrar interviews certainly didn’t hurt either!
"I can’t stress enough how important it is to nominate people for the awards. The two minutes it takes you to nominate could be a real game changer to someone, feeling seen and valued and almost certainly have a lasting positive impact on their career. So please nominate!”
Nominations are open until Sunday, 26th April.
A celebration event will see the winners crowned on Thursday, 4th June at 6pm in the CRH Learning Centre. Winners will receive a Golden Ticket to our 2026 CHuFT Awards which take place at the Arches in Dean Clough, Halifax on Thursday, 2nd July where there will be the opportunity to showcase their talent and achievements to the wider organisation. Nominees in each category will also be entered into a random draw for Golden Tickets.
