Last month colleagues came together with our Organisational Development Team for a workshop to look at our progress to date and future plans to prevent sexual misconduct at work.

Ophthalmology Outpatients Sister, Dorcas Akinfemiwa - pictured, was one of those who came along to the event. She said: “I feel like the organisation has really got my back. Thank you again for the great work that's happening to improve awareness of sexual misconduct prevention and support for colleagues across CHFT.”

As a result of feedback at the event, we will build on our communications so that more colleagues are aware of our support and resources. We have also made improvements to the active bystander training. We plan to work with managers so they can carry out local risk assessments and we’ll ensure the support channels are accessible for all colleagues.

OD Practitioner, Frances Dowson, said: “Huge thanks to everyone who attended and made it a really productive session. The ideas flowed and it's great we can incorporate colleague feedback.

”As well as our specific training around preventing sexual misconduct, we also offer Active Bystander training to help colleagues understand what they can do if they feel uncomfortable witnessing inappropriate behaviour, such as colleagues making inappropriate jokes, family members making a derogatory comment about a patient or colleague."

Our Sexual Misconduct Train the Trainer sessions are 60-minutes in length and are a mix of online and face to face sessions. Our Sexual Safety intranet page also has a pdf copy of the training slides. If managers would like the Organisational Development to run a dedicated session for their team (minimum of 10 colleagues), please email ODTeam@cht.nhs.uk

The Active Bystander training is a 90-minute face to face session.
