Last week, Chief Executive, Rob Aitchison, joined colleagues in Maternity to say a fond farewell to Clinical Governance Midwife, Kathy Kershaw, as she retired after 49 years at CHFT.
Patient Safety and Quality Midwife, Jill Bellerby, said: “It was great to be able to celebrate such a long career with Kathy, who began her nurse training at Halifax General Hospital in 1978 – qualifying in 1981. She worked on coronary care, female medical and gynae.
“But Kathy’s main love has been working within Maternity, and she started midwifery training at HRI in 1986.
“Over the years Kathy worked in various areas of Maternity and project management at HRI and gained a degree and Masters in business administration, moving to the Maternity Assessment Centre in 2005, and then on to roles in clinical audit from 2010.”
Kathy said: “I have enjoyed my career at CHFT. My most memorable achievements are the work around stillbirth reduction, gaining the student prize for my Masters dissertation and having papers accepted for publication in the British Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology and the Royal College of Midwives journal.
“I will miss both the Maternity and Neonatal teams at CHFT.”
