Our Acute Frailty Team Leads recently brought together a variety of colleagues at HRI for Frailty Champions Day, which is a Trust initiative to help spread awareness and education around frailty. The participants explored what frailty is, the role of Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment, and how these principles can be applied effectively on their wards to enhance patient care.
The session also focused on supporting patients with dementia and delirium, promoting safe mobilisation, and understanding the profound effects of hospital acquired deconditioning. Colleagues all wrote a pledge to take back to their areas and were also given an information pack at the end of the session along with a certificate of attendance.
Frailty Clinical Lead, Laura Hope, said: "By equipping colleagues with practical approaches to prevent functional decline, this directly supports improved patient outcomes and reinforces our commitment to high‑quality, person‑centred care across the trust.
"This successful training day reinforces our commitment to high‑quality, person‑centred care and marks the beginning of an ongoing programme. We plan to continue offering and expanding this training to further develop the skills and confidence of colleagues caring for frail patients across the Trust."
