From next month, work on the A629 phase 2 Halifax town centre project will move to the bottom of town.

You'll find all the information on the Calderdale Next Chapter website.

Key information:

  • Access to the Eureka park and ride car park will not be impacted, and the road between the park and ride and CRH will also remain open.
  • Routes through and around Halifax will be maintained. Use the A629 route and take the diversion to avoid congestion and possible queues at the bottom of town. Please plan ahead and allow more time for journeys around Halifax.
  • diversion will be in operation for those approaching Halifax from the south, which will take traffic away from the work zones and around the west (top) of town. Temporary traffic lights and localised diversions will be in place to keep traffic moving around work areas.
  • Vehicles will only be able to travel southbound along Church Street during the work. Access to New Road from South Parade/Church Street/Prescott Street will cease.
  • Blackledge will remain one-way, although there may be some temporary restrictions to access at the eastern entrance, and closures from May to September related to concerts at The Piece Hall.
  • Some bus stops may be affected, closed, or temporarily moved. The Council will work with local bus operators to make sure bus drivers and passengers are aware of any changes in advance and accessibility is maximised.
