Essential electrical maintenance work will be taking place on the Calderdale Royal Hospital site on Sunday, 22nd March 2026. Work will begin at around 06:00 and will take a maximum of six hours.

White switches will not work during this time - please be aware of the following information:

This work will see an interruption to the essential electrical supplies (indicated by red switches - see the image) for around 30 seconds.  The generators will then support these supplies whilst the essential maintenance work takes place. A further interruption will occur when the supply is restored back to the mains supply.

  • Maintenance in clinical areas will start at 08:00 - please see the table below
  • It is important to ensure that laptops for EPR use are fully charged prior to the shut down as red sockets may be required for essential clinical equipment.
  • Note:  All bedpan washers and ward fridges are on essential service (red sockets/switches)
  • Non-essential supplies are indicated by the use of white switches. These will not be available during the maintenance which could take between one and four hours depending on the department.  Therefore, staff must use the supplies with red switches as an alternative. Lighting will revert to emergency lights only.
  • All PCs/Laptops should be closed down correctly when you leave work prior to the shutdown and switched off at the socket.  If this does not happen there is a risk that any data on display will be lost.  If the equipment  is deemed critical throughout this work please ensure it is plugged into a red socket.

There will be a number of Equans (Estates) staff in uniform on site on the day and prior to any switch off. Areas such as A&E, Diagnostic Imaging/CT, Endoscopy and Theatres will be checked and all lifts will be signed and checked during interruptions.

If you have any queries prior to the day, please contact the Service Performance Team on Ext: 2439 or 2530.

Please direct all queries on the day to the Help Desk on 4600.
