Consultant Midwife, Michelle Jones, has returned to #TeamCHFT in a brand new role. We've been getting to know a bit more about her and what her job means for the people she will be supporting.

What is your role?

"My role will be  will be focusing on public health, health inequalities, and personalised care planning within maternity services .
This means working closely with women and families in the community, as well as collaborating with local public health teams and colleagues across the Trust."

What's your career journey been like so far?

"I began my  training as a midwife at 19, and since then I’ve held a variety of clinical, leadership and system‑wide roles. Most recently I worked within the ICB, supporting maternity transformation programmes across Calderdale and Kirklees.
Before this, I spent 16 years at CHFT - so returning now feels both exciting and like coming home."

What is the highlight of your career so far?

"Honestly, stepping into this new role is the highlight of my career so far. It feels incredibly special to be trusted with this opportunity, and I feel genuinely privileged to be able to make a difference in an area I’m so passionate about."

Can you sum up your role in three words?

"Listening. Supporting. Learning."

What did you want to be growing up?

"I wanted to be a teacher after leaving school but when I saw the amount of planning involved, I changed my mind. Then a friend of the family became pregnant and I was fascinated by her growing bump and that was it - applied for my midwifery!

Who is your hero or heroine and why?

"It has to be my Grandma. She was an incredible woman - no‑nonsense, full of strength, and with the biggest heart. She taught me so much about compassion, courage and staying true to who you are."

When you're not at work, how do you relax?

"Well I have two boys and a two year old Border Terrier called Billy, so I don't really relax! But when I can, I really enjoy playing the cornet, which is a little trumpet. I picked this up after watching my son in his cornet rehearsals and concerts, eventually I decided that I wanted to try, and now we're both part of a local brass band!"

What is your favourite place?

"I love cruising. There's something brilliant about waking up in a completely different place every morning.

"But I also love where I live in Littleborough, we have a lot of countryside which is amazing."

What would people be surprised to know about you?

"Likely it would be that I'm in a brass band! I have been part of the band for only six months so still a beginner!"
