While there is work happening in the A&E car park at Calderdale Royal Hospital, we’re catching up with our patients and colleagues on all the different ways to get to CRH.

We recently spoke to Pauline, who lives in Huddersfield, about why the 501 bus is her first choice for getting to CRH.

“We started using the 501 bus to get to Calderdale Hospital when my husband went in for his second hip operation in January last year. He was in hospital for two weeks, and just catching the bus made it much easier for me coming to visit him.

“It just makes sense for us. One of the best things about being the age we are is that we can catch the bus for free! It also takes the stress out of trying to find somewhere to park, and it’s cheaper.

“I know that the 501 comes about every 15 minutes and it’s a short walk to the bus stop from my house, and the hospital isn’t far from the bus stop on Halifax Road at the other end.

“I remember one occasion when I dropped my husband off for his appointment, while I went to find a parking space. By the time I found a space on the road, and paid for the parking, he was done with his appointment! Had I have gone on the bus I would have been able to join him for his appointment and would have saved myself the cost of parking and petrol! We have taken the bus ever since!”

The 501 is a regular bus service which runs seven days a week, between Huddersfield and Halifax, stopping at Calderdale Royal Hospital. More information on fares, and timetables can be found on the First Bus website.
