CHFT Charity has now raised half of its £300,000 target for a new Maternity Bereavement Suite at CRH, and to celebrate the team are opening tickets for their first ever charity ball in aid of the Maternity Bereavement Appeal. The ball is being held on Saturday, 26th September, at Berties in Elland.
Altogether, the appeal aims to raise £500,000 for a new Maternity Bereavement Suite, and counselling room, at CRH. The Maternity Bereavement Appeal aims to make sure that everyone affected by miscarriage, stillbirth or neonatal death, who is cared for by the hospital Trust, gets the support they need, in an environment that’s right for them. The funds raised will be used to create a comfortable, self-contained, home from home, giving families the support and privacy they need at such a difficult time.
Head of CHFT Charity and Volunteering Services, Emma Kovaleski, said: “Thanks to the incredible generosity of donors and supporters, £150,000 has already been raised towards the suite. We are hoping that our first ever Charity Ball, which will be a fantastic evening, will help get us even closer to that target, anyone is welcome to buy a ticket and help raise funds for this important appeal.”
Specialist Bereavement Midwife, Sarah Hall, said: “We know that our current bereavement facilities don't support families in the best way possible and we need to change that.
“The grief experienced by families is profound and can be made more difficult when they experience this in the middle of a busy labour ward, surrounded by mothers and families celebrating new life.
"Baby loss can affect anyone and has far reaching consequences across our communities. The care that bereaved parents receive in hospital following the death of their baby is crucial and small details can mean a great deal to recently bereaved parents.”
