After swearing never to run a marathon again, Director of Operations for Resilience, Acute Flow and Transformation, Renee Comerford, has just returned from Seville, having gained a personal best for the 26-mile race.
Renee wasn’t alone though, as she was running with her son Danny to raise funds for Dementia UK. Renee has run for the charity before, but this time it was for very personal reasons as her mum is living with dementia.
Renee said: “Danny talked me into it. He’d seen me run three marathons and was determined to do it as he really wanted to raise money for a cause close to our hearts. Before I knew it, I’d signed up so we could go along and support this amazing charity on behalf of my mum."
And after missing two marathons in the past that she'd trained for, it was just fantastic that our Surgical Matron, Claire Alletson, could run too, along with our friend and close supporter Donna Nettleton.
Renee continued: “Claire was due to run the London Marathon with me before but was injured and then as we were about to leave for the Paris Marathon, her dad sadly died of prostate cancer, so she had to pull out. Her dad had himself run a marathon, so she was desperate to finish this race in his memory.”
Huge congratulations to the awesome foursome, who all got personal bests.
Chief Operating Officer, Gemma Berriman, travelled to Seville to give her support. She said: “They all did so well in the 23-degree heat, all getting personal bests. It was amazing watching them.”
The fantastic four’s charity page is still open. Thank you to everyone for their donations so far. Danny Comerford is fundraising for Dementia UK
