A series of videos have been created to support people with a learning disability and their carers or families when they come to our hospitals for their appointments. The videos feature our very own Engagement Support Officer, Toseef Ahmed, in a starring role.

The videos explain what will happen during certain appointments. At the moment these include:

The purpose is to give patients with a learning disability an understanding of what is going to happen at their appointments, and informs them of where they can ask for reasonable adjustments if they are needed. It also shows how bringing a Hospital Passport with them to their appointments can be very beneficial.

Colleagues are encouraged to share these videos with patients and their families or carers to help them prepare for their appointment or operation. All the videos are on our Trust YouTube channel and can be sent as a link. Colleagues can also share the videos with friends and family outside of work, to help spread the message.

Nurse Consultant for Learning Disabilities, Amanda McKie, said: "CHFT is committed to meeting the needs of people with a learning disability, making reasonable adjustments and increasing awareness of Hospital Passports. If you would like to ensure your ward or department is learning disability friendly, get in touch and we will advise and support you to do this."
