Resident Doctors are being sought for recruitment onto a national survey related to the prescription of continuous subcutaneous infusions (syringe drivers) during end-of-life care. The study is being run by University Hospital Southampton. 

About the study

This research survey aims to assess the confidence and knowledge of resident doctors working within the UK when prescribing continuous subcutaneous infusions (otherwise known as syringe drivers) during end-of-life care.

This research is being conducted to see if further undergraduate and postgraduate education is required on the topic, and what factors impact confidence and knowledge on syringe driver prescribing.

Who is eligible to participate?

You are eligible to take part if you:

• Have undertaken employment as a doctor within the United Kingdom during the past 12 months.
• Have full or provisional General Medical Council (GMC) registration as a doctor.
• During the above period you worked within a clinical training role (e.g. F1, IMT, HST), as a locally employed doctor (e.g. Trust grade doctor), or as a “locum doctor”.

GPs, Consultants, or SAS doctors are not being asked to participate in this survey.

Optional prize draw

Participants will have the option to enter a prize draw for a chance to win one of ten £25 vouchers.

What will participation involve?

Participants will be asked to complete a short online survey (10 minutes) about their experience prescribing syringe drivers. We will validate your identity as a doctor by collecting a small amount of personal information, which will be deleted once your identity has been confirmed.
