New long-term roadworks will begin in Halifax later this week and are likely to affect colleagues travelling from the north side of Halifax (Boothtown / Illingworth areas) getting to the Eureka! park and ride service.

The following information provides a list of road closures. We have tried to provide some identifiable landmarks to try piece this together and to help everyone plan their journeys. If we receive any more details, or clearer maps we will share.

The following roads will be closed northbound until June 2027:

Charles Street, Square Road, Church Street and South Parade

  • The closures will be between Prescott Street (CWS car wash) and King Street (Tyre Pros - opposite Woolshops).
  • Drivers will still be able to drive southbound.
  • The alternative route for northbound traffic is via Skircoat Road, Portland Place, Commercial Street, Fountain Street, Barum Top, Bull Green, Cow Green, Broad Street, Northgate, and Winding Road.

Bank Bottom (back of Halifax Minster) will be closed eastbound from the junction of Cripplegate to the junction of Southowram Bank.

  • The alternative route for eastbound traffic is via Skircoat Road, Portland Place, Commercial Street, Fountain Street, Barum Top, Bull Green, Cow Green, Broad Street, Orange Street, Burdock Way, New Bank, and Charlestown Road.

Roads expected to be closed until October 2027:

Cripplegate/Lower Kirkgate (back of Halifax Minster) will also be closed to vehicles northbound from the junction of Berry Lane (Matalan) to the junction of King Street.

  • The alternative route for northbound traffic is via Skircoat Road, Portland Place, Commercial Street, Fountain Street, Barum Top, Bull Green, Cow Green, Broad Street, Northgate, Winding Road, and King Street.
  • Vehicles won’t be able to travel westbound from the junction of Square Road to the junction of Thomas Street.
  • The alternative route for westbound traffic is via Horton Street. Eastbound access is maintained.

Woolshops car park

Access to Woolshops Car Park will be maintained. The exit from Woolshops car park on Hatters Fold (Burger King) will be right turn only onto Square Road.

This work is to support the next phase of the Calderdale Next Chapter and is part of the A629 Halifax Town Centre phase 2 East plans.
