Work to get CRH ready to build our new hospital starts in car parks from next Monday, 26th January. You will see hoarding going up in our CRH car parks, with work starting shortly after.
This essential work will get the CRH site ready for construction of the new hospital building, routing essential services such as power and water on site, and is expected to complete by early Autumn 2026.
It is still important to leave parking spaces free for our patients and their visitors. Thank you to all colleagues who have been using other ways to get to CRH. It has been making a big difference to our patients and will continue to be an important part of making sure there is minimal disruption on site.
As a reminder, we are asking colleagues to take the following actions:
- Do not park on site so we leave car parking spaces free for patients and visitors. There continues to be some colleagues parking at CRH who should not be. There will still be extra measures on site, including patrols, colleagues on barriers, and tickets being issued.
- Use alternative options for travelling to CRH, including our park and ride, shuttle bus service, and public transport. Lots of information on all these options can be found on the intranet.
- If you are on site, for example, as a priority permit holder, or for a drop off, park in marked bays only, follow signage, and leave routes clear for emergency services.
All pedestrian routes will continue to be open throughout the work.
Thank you for your patience and leaving our parking spaces free for patients and their visitors.
There will be no disruption to the delivery of our services.
Information will be shared with patients, visitors and the public from this week, and will be available on the CHFT website.
You can find all the ways to get to CRH on the intranet here. If you are planning to start using the Park and Ride service, please let us know so that we can consider if we need to allow for any extra spaces in those car parks.
We have included some initial answers to Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) below. If you have a question which is not included here, please email: AskReconfiguration@cht.nhs.uk
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
What is the new hospital building?
Our new hospital building at CRH will include eight wards, and a new emergency department - with separate areas for adults and children.
Due for completion in 2029, the new clinical building will be a landmark development for the local area, designed to provide people with high quality, compassionate care for generations to come.
The new hospital building, and multi-storey car park at CRH is part of the Foundations for our Future programme, which is a long-term plan to transform hospital and community services in Calderdale and Huddersfield.

Why can’t colleagues park on the CRH site?
We ask that colleagues do not park on the CRH site as we need to keep spaces free for our patients, and their visitors.
Our security teams will be carrying out patrols and will issue parking tickets if required. We know it may be frustrating, but it is a temporary measure while we build the new multi-storey car park.
How will you help colleagues with keeping safe in the winter months while it is dark if they can’t park on site?
The secure Park and Ride service has timetables to accommodate shift patterns at different times of the day, including night shifts. There are plans in place for winter that make it a better option than walking in the dark if you park your car on nearby roads.
We’ve invested heavily in additional safety and security measures in our Park and Ride car parks, this includes regular security patrol and CCTV coverage at the car parks. We would strongly encourage colleagues to use the official Park and Ride car parks as these provide the safest option for you and your vehicle.
Drivers can also wait until people are in their cars before leaving when it is dark. In the mornings you have the option to wait in your car and the bus will flash its lights on arrival.
The car parks will also be gritted over the winter months. Timetable information about the Park and Ride is available on the intranet here: Park and Ride - CHFT Intranet
Will there be any noise disruption?
We are working with our contractors to see what noise impact this work will have. We are also working with our Infection Prevention and Control colleagues to assess any impact on clinical areas which may face the car park. We will let you know about any expected noise disruption.
What will you do for colleagues who have a Priority Parking Permit?
We have sent a separate communication to all colleagues who have a Priority Parking Permit on reallocation of spaces.
What will you be telling patients?
There will be clear information on our CHFT website. There will also be information on digital screens, and clear signage in place around CRH to let people know where work is currently happening and where alternative parking can be found.
Patients with outpatient appointments at CRH will also be given information via text message, on DrDoctor appointment confirmations and reminders. Information will also be given to colleagues who book appointments over the phone.
Why couldn’t you wait until the multi storey car park is built?
We are due to start construction on our new clinical building at CRH in Autumn 2026 and these essential services are needed ahead of the construction starting. Unfortunately, there is no other time we would be able to fit this work in as to not cause a significant delay in building our new hospital.
What will the Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) mitigations be?
IPC colleagues will be completing walk arounds of areas and will speak to those areas directly affected by the works about the mitigations which will be needed to keep patients and colleagues safe.
Will there be any impact on shuttle buses?
There may be a short delay on some of our Shuttle Buses, please allow an additional 5-10 minutes for your journey. We are open to any feedback about our Shuttle Bus service, please use our feedback form: Feedback - CHFT Intranet
How do I get a Park and Ride permit?
Colleagues who are based at CRH can request a Park and Ride permit. You can find information about the service and how to apply for a permit on the intranet here: Park and Ride - CHFT Intranet

Is overnight and weekend parking affected?

Please note that in the evenings and weekends, there is free parking available on the public roads surrounding CRH.
