Colleagues on the Stroke Unit at CRH turned purple last week – as their annual CHFT Stroke Awareness Week returned in full force for the first time since 2019.

All throughout the week - always held in May to coincide with national Stroke Awareness Month - they had a raft of activities – all in aid of sharing the act FAST message*.

Their Pets in Purple competition saw 30 entries from colleagues for this fun competition – with the winner being announced later this month.

Stones were hidden around Halifax and Huddersfield, sharing the message for those that find them.

There was also a joint bake sale run with colleagues from ED. Charge nurse, Andrew Elwers, said: "It was a roaring success with queues forming and purchases made whilst we were setting the stall up. Fabulous baked goods and crafts were made by members of both teams and we raised £796, so we'll round it up to £800, so £400 for each deptartment."

There was also a visit from the local Stroke Association to CRH and a party for patients.

Brilliant effort as ever from the whole team.

*Act FAST:

  • Face - can the person smile?
  • Arms - can they raise both arms?
  • Speech - is their speech slurred?
  • Time to call 999 if you spot any of these signs.
