Our consultant in obstetrics and gynaecology, and Deanery College tutor, Sarah Saqib, has made a real impression on her trainees.

And the regional training team for Yorkshire and the Humber were so impressed by her nine separate nominations from students, that they've put her forward for a national award.

Kat Barton, the Chair of the Regional Trainees Committee for Yorkshire and Humber, wrote to Sarah, saying: "Congratulations on the regional nomination for the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG) Trainer of the Year competition. You were nominated by nine separate trainees who had a range of outstanding feedback.

"You should be very proud. On behalf of all the trainees I wanted to say a huge thank you to you for all of the outstanding work that you have done and to tell you I've submitted a nomination for you to the RCOG national competition."

Deputy director of operations for families and specialist services, Gill Harries, said: "We feel very proud of Sarah. Her meticulous hard-working attitude is what has supported our trainee doctors to ensure they have the best experience in there trainee journey whilst working in obstetrics and gynaecology."

The date for the national awards has yet to be announced - needless to say, we'll be watching closely!

Here are a few snippets of the feedback for Sarah:

"I have never met a trainer who goes out of her way to get to know all of her trainees as individuals like Dr Saqib does. She ensures that we feel valued personally and professionally by the department, regardless of the pressures on the NHS."

"She has a deep understanding of our training needs and how to enable us to achieve them fairly. She is an advocate for our educational opportunities and always has an open door for a query or concern. I cannot think of a more worthy recipient of this award."

"Her attention to detail, and teaching style is so effective. I now feel much more confident using my ultrasound skills in day-to-day practice, thanks to Dr Saqib."

"I must say she is the best supervisor I have had. She is incredibly encouraging and enthusiastic about my training and gives excellent advice with regards to courses I should attend and career progression."
