Thanks to our peer immuniser community, more than 3,000 colleagues across CHFT have had their winter flu vaccination.
Pictured right is super-vaccinator and Operating Department Practitioner, Janet Morrison, receiving a certificate of appreciation from Chief Operating Officer, Gemma Berriman, last week. Janet has single-handedly vaccinated 10% of all colleagues who have come forward, giving 300 vaccines in two months, which is why we've fondly named her our CHFT in-flu-encer.
Gemma said: “This year’s campaign has been such a success because Janet and all our volunteer immunisers have supported us from the get-go.
“To know that almost 45% of our frontline colleagues who care for our most vulnerable patients, are protected from flu, is not only a huge milestone but also reassuring, and will help everyone to stay well this winter.
“I’d urge colleagues yet to have theirs not to leave it too late – we don’t want flu to ruin your plans this Christmas, and it takes around 10 days or so for your body to build up immunity. Having your vaccine and regular handwashing with soap and water are still the best ways to protect you, and others, from flu.”
After her presentation, Janet said: "Thank you for this recognition. It means a lot and I’ll certainly be volunteering again next year, as I always do.”
A huge thank you to all our fabulous immunisers.
The peer immuniser campaign will end this Sunday, 7th December.
As we head into winter, our frontline peer immunisers will be needed to support patient care. So from Monday, 8th December, colleagues will be able to get their vaccine by emailing flu@cht.nhs.uk - the team will put you in touch with a colleague who can support you.
