Here is a brief description of recent policy changes. Please make yourself aware of the changes, as they may also impact training requirements.

Elective Care Cancer Access Policy

  • Updated to reflect cancer waiting times

Registering and De-Registering Non-Medical Prescribers with NHSBSA and Ordering and Destroying Prescriptions Issued to NMPs Working in Community Policy

  • Link to NMP Policy appendices updated
  • Hubs updated to localities

Medicine Code Policies

Section 17 The Medicine Code - Medicines No Longer Required Return or Disposal

  • Environmental Officer changed to Environmental Manager
  • Changed expiry of sharps to 6 months from 3 months as per the Waste Management Policy
  • Pre-acceptance inspections can now be carried out internally as well as externally
  • Incident reporting has changed from Datix to InPhase
  • Non-pharmaceutical waste section updated
  • Waste posters updated
  • New Waste Management Disposal Procedure & Sharps Disposal Guides added
  • New link added for Hazardous drugs list – previously only listed the medications purchased by the trust, this now has a full list. This is because of frequent changes to what the trust stock/purchase
  • Update on where spillage kits are obtained in Community

Section 40 The Medicine Code - Self-Prescribing for Close Friends, Family and Colleagues

  • Definition of emergency situations list expanded
  • Outpatient Pharmacy updated from Rowlands to CHS Outpatient Pharmacy

Section 43 The Medicine Code - Non-Medical Prescribing Policy

  • Therapeutic area of prescribing & Application to prescribe Specialist Medicines –NMP to sign off confirming that all prescribing will be in the NMP’s area of clinical competence
  • All applications can be scanned (on CHFT scanner) for signatures
  • Notes for completion strengthened on all application forms
  • Trainee Pharmacists will automatically qualify as independent prescribers upon completing their registration exam – paragraph and document added
  • Prescribing no longer required as part of job role added

Section 48 The Medicine Code - Immunisation Policy

  • References to Covid-19 Vaccinations for Trust employees removed
  • Occupational vaccines offered updated to remove: BCG, Covid-19, Hepatitis A and Typhoid
