HRI A&E Housekeeper Maura Gill has just completed her third Hastings Half Marathon, raising £420 for the A&E department in the process.
Maura took on her first half marathon over two years ago, after meeting her friend’s 80-year-old neighbour in the town.
Maura said: “They were chatting about it, and she’d had done it quite a few times on her own and with her children, so she inspired me even though I wasn't a runner at the time.
“Fortunately I joined a walking group and a man there was also a runner. He took me out training about six weeks before my first race, so in 2023 I ran my first-ever half marathon.
“I took the medal to show the lady who inspired me. I’ve since joined two Huddersfield running clubs and love it and have met and made good friends with some lovely people too.
“I achieved my goal of running it non-stop and in under 2.5 hrs this year, with a time of 2:27.10, so I was chuffed.
"I'd recommend running to anyone. It's a great way to get fit and meet new people in a relaxed and safe environment. Rockhoppers Running Club have just celebrated their 5th year and support all abilities, from Let's Start Running sessions in Greenhead Park to trail running, and strength and conditioning sessions. It has helped me with not only my fitness levels, losing a stone in weight over the last 18 months, but also my emotional and mental health too which is great at 58 years old.
"It's never too late, as they say, to get fit and healthy."
What a great effort Maura – well done.
