Planned drainage works started on Halifax Road on Saturday, 25th October and are expected to last around two weeks. The works will involve a deep excavation in the carriageway, extending up to three metres below road level.
The work is being carried out on behalf of Kirklees Council.
Due to the complexity and the amount of the excavation works, it is programmed to complete the works over two school half-terms to minimise traffic disruption, the affected dates are outlined below.
- Phase 1 (Marked in Red)
Commencing on 25th October 2025 for around two full weeks to coincide with the upcoming school half-term break. - Phase 2 (Marked in Blue)
Scheduled to take place during the first school half-term of 2026, from 14th February 2026 to 22nd February 2026.
To undertake the works safely, a section of the northbound lane will be closed and will be under two-way traffic light control. Due to the deep excavation, it is not feasible to reopen the lane each day meaning the traffic management will remain in place throughout the works.
