The team in Ophthalmology have a fang-tastic reason to celebrate this week as they have two colleagues celebrating big birthdays - both on Halloween! Referral Portal Administrator, Kerry Gartery, is turning 60 and Ophthalmology Failsafe Coordinator, Natalie Robinson.
They found out they shared a birthday when Kerry was interviewed by Natalie to join the team. We caught up with them both to see what their plans are and what it was like growing up with Halloween birthdays.
How are you celebrating your milestone birthdays?
Natalie: "I have just come back from Bali with my son and best friend for my 50th."
Kerry: "I've just come back from Italy where I stayed in Sorrento with my husband. On my actual birthday I am staying in a hotel in Scarborough for the weekend with my family including my four granddaughters who are excitedly choosing Halloween outfits."
Did family and friends always tie your birthday in with Halloween growing up?
Natalie: "Absolutely, this was harder when I was younger as there wasn't as many things available as there is now - but I have always had Halloween cakes and goodies!"
Kerry: "At my parties I always had a turnip that my Dad did in the middle of the table with sausages on sticks in."
What is it like having a Halloween birthday?
Natalie: "It is the best birthday ever! No one ever has an excuse to forget and especially when my middle name is Pumpkin!"
Kerry: "Great, I fully enjoy it and my Mum said she never realised I was born on a special day way back then - as it wasn’t really celebrated then."
What's been your favourite Halloween costume you've ever worn?
Natalie: "I used to always do 31 days of Halloween and wear a Halloween related outfit every day - I have been away a few times over the last few years so have only managed to squeeze a few weeks in! My absolute favourite costume though would have been for my 40th where I dressed as a dead bride!"
Kerry: "Witches outfit! My son had a gender reveal party on Halloween and everyone dressed up. Pink smoke appeared from the pumpkin for his 3rd daughter.
If you could give your younger self one piece of advice, what would it be?
Natalie: "Always be you - and never aim for normal - normal is a washing machine cycle!"
Kerry: "Enjoy life and never sweat the small things."
Have a boo-rilliant birthday Natalie and Kerry!
