A recent event was held at Mixenden Activity Centre to celebrate International Day of Older People. The event was a collaboration between CHFT, North Halifax Primary Care Network (NH PCN), Overgate Hospice and Staying Well.
There was an opportunity for people to speak with each of the services, and find out about events happening in the area.
Blood pressure reviews were offered from NH PCN, and light touch hand massages were also offered from Overgate, which several attendees enjoyed.
The live entertainment was a huge success. A husband and wife singing duo brought props to engage the crowd. Everyone was dancing in their seats, waving their flags and a few guests even got up for a dance!
A free raffle was also held, with the main prizes being vouchers for the local supermarket, and an alternative free Bingo game was played. Crafts were also available, with some attendees enjoyed pottery painting.
Three referrals for Ageing Well were gained from the event with follow up phone calls being arranged.
Ageing Well Practitioner, Michelle Sykes, said: "The North Halifax International Day of Older People event was a great success. This year's theme was around social connections; as a collective the teams achieved that by bringing the older people of North Halifax together to celebrate themselves. My most enjoyable moment was seeing a couple of guests getting up to dance to their favourite song."
Feedback from the event was very positive:
"I’d love to come again."
"Everybody went above and beyond to make it special."
