Following the success of last year's event, the dementia team have come up trumps again and this year, as well as lots of engaging and enlightening activities, there will also be a play on site at HRI highlighting the challenges faced by older people and their families where there is an Alzheimer’s diagnosis.

Here's a schedule of events - please note that booking is required for the Where or When production

Where or When Production - a short play with five actors (please book) - Tuesday, 16th May 

• Forum Room 2, L&D Centre, HRI 11am to midday (colleagues only)
• Lecture Theatre HRI, 1:30pm to 2.30pm (colleagues and public)

Pluto Productions Limited is a not-for-profit registered charity. Their play is about Sylvia, a retired hospital matron of the old school.  She is a Queen’s Nurse and lives happily with her devoted husband.  She has been a mover and shaker all her life but now she is afflicted with Alzheimer’s.  She repeatedly suffers from UTIs - her husband is at his wits end. He is sometimes concerned that the hospital staff don’t understand her needs but they too are under stress.  

This short play looks at the challenges faced by older people and their families where there is an Alzheimer’s diagnosis.  What the patient talks about may seem unconnected to the world as it is now. but those words may have important resonance to their well life.  The play explores good – and not so good – practice.

Mobile Virtual Dementia Tour - the bus is back! Wednesday, 17th May

• 9am-1pm HRI car park
• 2pm – 5pm CRH car park

This is an innovative dementia training which gives delegates the opportunity to have an experience of what dementia might be like and help improve practice. Watch Paula Grice's short clip below about her experience last year.

Admiral Nurse Clinic - Thursday, 18th May

10am – 3pm, Hub 2 – L&D Centre, HRI

The Admiral Nurse Clinic is for carers of people with dementia, providing specialist advice and support around the caring role. It’s a drop in clinic and is kindly being hosted by staff from Kirklees Admiral Nursing team.
