Gemma Berriman’s son, Jamie, played a key role in Saturday’s Coronation and he was so close to the parade that Prince William waved as he passed by.
Our Director of Operations (and very proud Mum) spotted him on the telly and has sent us a specially red-circled photo simply bursting with her pride.
She said he had been practicing 12 hours a day since Easter for the ceremony. She said: “I am so proud of Jamie and all he has achieved. He was such a shy teenager growing up and it is certainly true ‘born in Halifax, made in the Royal Navy’. Spotting Jamie on TV on Saturday and knowing what he was undertaking made me quite emotional and will be something as a family we never forget.”
Jamie, 19, is a Weapons Engineer in the Royal Navy after joining in June 2022. The week before he finished his training the Queen died, and he was among the first cohort to pass out under King Charles and Camilla, and now has a thank you letter from them following Saturday's events.
His Coronation Day started at 1am and ended back in Portsmouth at 8pm with a curry and a few pints before bed!
Gemma adds: “Jamie said the whole day was amazing. It was a long day and was very wet and there was lots of horse poo. But he said the atmosphere was fantastic he was able to see all the Royals and he even got a wave from Prince William.”
