Colleagues in the Families and Specialist Services division have embraced their NHS Staff Survey feedback to introduce the Rest, Rehydrate and Refuel project in Radiology, Outpatients and Records.

Following the last NHS Staff Survey there was a lot of feedback about break times, and being able to rest and recover whilst at work.

Colleagues across the division shared feedback about lunchbreaks, food and drink facilities in the department, and that they have access to buy food and drinks, however sometimes the prices might not always be accessible.

There were also an equal split of colleagues who felt there were healthy options available, and colleagues who were able to take a break during the day. Colleagues also shared that opening hours for eating facilities on site can make it challenging for staff working on weekends to access food.

Human Resources Advisor, Cara Donald, said: "It was important to listen to our colleagues, especially when many people are saying the same thing. The roles being done across the Trust require hard work and dedication and we want to ensure our colleagues have the facilities to be able to put their all into delivering patient-centred care."

"Thanks to the feedback we implemented the rest, rehydrate and refuel project, which is a national initiative, looking at how we could use it in our division. The project aims to understand and tackle barriers to sufficient hydration, breaks and refreshment facilities for NHS colleagues."

The team also reached out to colleagues with a follow up survey to get some further understanding on the barriers they were facing.

Cara added: "Without the NHS Staff Survey feedback, we wouldn't have been able to follow up with colleagues to make sure that we best support their wellbeing. We're now reviewing the data from this latest survey to see what actions we can put in place to target some of the key points raised, to share with our colleagues at a later date."

The NHS Staff Survey will launch on Monday, 29th September, look out for an email with your unique survey link in your inbox.
