From Monday, 22nd September all ward doors at HRI* will be set to automatically close within 15 seconds. This work will take place to support better Health and Safety, and Fire Safety, and will:

• Improve fire safety by ensuring doors close quickly enough to maintain compartmentation
• Support colleague safety following incidents involving malfunctioning door closers
• Reduce the risk of vulnerable patients being able to abscond

New process for requests

To support consistency and safety across the site, our Estates Team at HRI will no longer be able to adjust door timings if asked when they are on wards. If you believe your door times need to be adjusted, please log a job via the Helpdesk. Each request will be considered on an individual basis by the Health and Safety Team.

Our colleagues in Estates and Facilities thank you for your support. If you see a porter or colleague struggling with a door or patient transfer, please step in to help. Small acts of kindness make a big difference.
