Here is a brief description of recent policy changes. Please make yourself aware of the changes, as they may also impact training requirements.
Policies that have been added, updated or renewed within the last 30 days are all stored on the Recent Updates page of the Policies and Documents library. So you can find these documents there or search from the homepage.
Ionising Radiation Protection Policy
- Updated the reference, as low as reasonably practicable, to as low as reasonably achievable.
- Radiation Risk Assessments, Radiology Quality Assurance Procedure PR2000/027 and Equipment Fault Reporting Procedure PR2000/004 added to associated documents.
- Added the Environmental Permitting (England and Wales) Regulations 2016 and The Carriage of Dangerous Goods and Use of Transportable Pressure Equipment Regulations 2009 to the reference list.
- Update to Appendix 4 TOR for radiation protection board, frequency of meetings increased from annual to twice per year.
- Update to appendix 5 IRPOG Membership table.
Medicine Code Section 30 Handling Medicines in Operating Departments
- Updated in view of changes to Trust Medicines Code.
- Updated to include non-medical prescribers and the wider pool of health care professionals who can use PGDs.
- Updated to specify restrictions on the roles of Physician Assistants and Physician Assistants in Anaesthesia.
- Information added and verified regarding national standards for storage and labelling of medicines from the relevant anaesthetic bodies.
- Updates applied regarding medicines security and controlled drug management;
- Updated to reflect that pharmacy do not routinely dispose of expired medicines (except Controlled Drugs) and this is the responsibility of the clinical area.
- Added further information on which pharmacy staff are first point of contact for medicines management issues.
- Section added on maintaining safe supplies of medicines to Theatre.
