Our first Award of the evening was Go See which went to the Urgent SDEC Implementation Team. The team were nominated twice for implementing a pathway which now stands as a model of excellence in emergency care transformation.
Head Nurse for Medicine, Tom Ladlow, was asked what spurred them on to come up with the idea for the Urgent SDEC (Same Day Emergency Care) Unit. Tom said, "We knew we could do better, so we did. Our colleagues have really felt the benefit of the changes. What’s clear is that over the past six months colleagues feel they’re able to spend more time with their patients, something we know they all want to do."
Here’s a few words from their nomination:
“Through their collaborative efforts, they have developed and embedded a transformative urgent Same Day Emergency Care service that has significantly enhanced the quality, efficiency, and responsiveness of emergency care. Notably, the percentage of patients admitted, transferred, or discharged within four hours has risen from an average of 65% to over 80%, marking a substantial improvement in meeting the national Emergency Care Standard. This nomination celebrates not only the success of a new care model but also the dedication, innovation, and teamwork that made it possible. The Urgent SDEC Pathway stands as a model of excellence in emergency care transformation.”
"It has had a transformative impact on our team, organisation, and the wider health service. It has significantly improved staff morale by fostering collaboration, innovation, and a shared sense of purpose. Personally, it’s been inspiring to witness such a positive shift—proof that thoughtful service redesign can deliver measurable improvements in care quality and staff wellbeing."
Congratulations to our other finalists: Sister Danielle Frost, Frailty Advanced Clinical Practitioners (ACPs), Associate Director of Nursing Renee Comerford and Dr Sarah Saqib.
