Kidney Care UK’s Bloody Amazing Kidneys campaign is a national campaign to help raise awareness of chronic kidney disease (CKD), spotlight how incredible our kidneys are, and encourage those most at risk of developing CKD to get tested.

1 in 10 people in the UK live with CKD and many don’t even know it. It often remains undiagnosed as CKD often shows no symptoms until its later stages. Across Yorkshire and the Humber, approximately 575,000 adults are living with CKD, most being unaware. Yorkshire and the Humber also experiences above average rates of diabetes and cardiovascular disease - two leading causes of CKD – therefore, raising awareness and promoting early detection of CKD is essential to help people manage CKD earlier and more effectively. These preventative measures can help reduce the risk of more serious treatments in the future, taking pressure off local health services.

Since Kidney Care UK launched the campaign in late 2024, almost 200,000 have taken the online test with approximately 50% being flagged as higher risk for CKD. Many of those flagged have already followed up with their GP, leading to new diagnoses and earlier interventions.

It only takes five minutes to protect your kidneys – use the Kidney Care UK Kidney Health Checker to check your risk. Let’s spread the message and encourage your friends and family to find out more about their kidneys.
